Butler did a great wonderful performance in this pic! However I did NOT care for the screenplay. Elvis was a VERY spiritual man of faith and I didn’t care for how that was portrayed - as if it was ONLY because of the Blacks in his life that he was inspired by. He was influenced by them of course. However I just felt like the Black issue was too hyped. Overdone. Like this director had something to prove. I also saw A LOT of influence from Priscilla -knowing about Elvis so much as a longtime fan! No other women after her were portrayed. It was OBVIOUS that she made herself look angelic. And again HER FRIEND and his was Jerry S. He limited his sources to few and only that which served HIS purpose-that being Baz. Great actor- not so great pic

Austin Butler was not Elvis ad didn't even look like him. What am I supposed to say.? He's a great actor? Don't get me wrong but another Elvis Presley he surely was not. They should have gotten one of the million Elvis impersonators out there. Surely there was one or is one out there that could do a much better job. Who at least looked like Elvis. This guy didn't even look like him, I was shocked. How are you supposed to judge when it's not the real thing. I can't even picture Elvis in my mind when I look at Austin Butler singing an Elvis song. Not the real deal but I give you an (A)+ for effort.

I saw the movie and loved it. Saddened by the details regarding the effects of the Tom Parker/Elvis relationship - can't help but wonder how different Elvis' life would have been without the control of Parker. As far as Austin Butler - OMG - what a talent! This should be a turning point in his career! I would love to see him win an Oscar for his portrayal of Elvis - he is THAT awesome!
apollocreed1000 - 29 hari yang lalu
@Steven James Elvis had enough talent to not need Colonel Tom Parker. It might have taken him a bit longer to hit the big time but he would have got there in the end.

As if fake "Colonel" Tom Parker was a Nazi that was able to hide amongst the traveling carnival business. He had no legal documents, but back then able to get away with that. He was drugging Elvis from the beginning of their relationship. The infamous "pep pills". I remember my mother talking about those as a kid. Today would be called "uppers". (The uppers and downers for years is what ends up causing an incurable physiological effects chemical imbalance, and eventually killed him. Anti depressants, more chemicals, can end up suiciding ownselves). Once he was able to find someone with a lot of talent and unique, he was able to just con his own way the whole time and nobody questioned him. He had a strong emotional hold on Elvis. The movie makes it all clear.

Saw Elvis in concert when I was 8 yrs old - almost 50 yrs ago. Austin Butler’s performance gave me cold chills more than once during the movie, as if I was transported back decades and was in the presence of Elvis himself. This is movie magic we have not seen in a very, very long time. Austin Butler should absolutely walk away ….. no run away …..sprint with an Oscar. He is THAT damn good. Truly “wow worthy.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sorry but the movies was a bit fat zero based on what it could have been. Austin was great playing 1950's Elvis but after that he either didn't carry himself as Elvis or the script fell flat. The movie came of as a not so serious narrative story by Tom Hanks. It had the wrong vibe and wrong look.

@Johannes Sjolte You have excellent points however my point was th as t Tom Hanks is America’s little brother and see/hear him portray a dark character was difficult. The movie depiction of Elvis was the biggest surprise- I honestly thought it was going to be a circus show like always in the past - I wouldn’t dare pass judgment on Austin’s performance- Not a singer or dancer and shy , yet he had the courage to act as Elvis

@Rita Hall Austin Butler was so real in the movie that he made Tom Hanks seem like a cartoon character, it was like they where making too different movies for me ... and the voice-over was just awful.

My mom was a huge fan of Elvis as a you g teenager and adult. She recently passed away, and going through her things, I found 3 original scrapbooks she’d made in the 1950’s of him. THEN I saw this movie. Needless to say, I ugly-cried at the end of the movie, have ordered/bought about 20 of his movies on DVD and am treasuring looking through these scrapbooks! ❤️

Went to see the movie, it was really good, I loved the storyline I was really impressed with the movie and also sad Elvis was so talented. Everything that my mom told me about Elvis and his career was true based on how they portrayed history, that was my mom's era and she shared light on his popularity and that Elvis was considered a juvenile delinquent, my mom also told me that Colonial Parker was a concern based on news reports of that time.

I had the pleasure of seeing Elvis live before he died. I was a big-time Beatles fan and all but 19 years old. My boss and friend at the time was a big Elvis fan, he even named his tricked-out truck King Creole on the side. Well, I was ok with seeing him perform I was entirely blown away by his voice, charm, and his all-out effort to build up what I would call a once-in-a-lifetime gig but after I realized that he did this for all his shows! I was mesmerized by the legend who was the man who gave it all every night! Thank You Elvis and RIP who after that day became one of my musical idols!

Thanks for the synopsis - saw the movie last night. A great biopic which reminds us just how profound the "Elvis effect" was. Austin Butler puts on a show worthy of his character and has to be close to an Oscar. Tom Hanks takes on a different challenge and delivers, if not to the same level of Butler. Baz Luhrmann - Moulin Rouge was incredible and Elvis is right up there. For Elvis fans (and even non-fans) this is a must-see.

@Lee Grant Yeah you're probably right about that I'm not a real fan so I don't know the difference because if I were I'd probably feel the same as you do. When Elvis died I was 16 years old and listened to my own music and the only time I ever heard Elvis was on the radio or watching one of his movies on 📺 and I also know what you're saying about how directors like to mess with characters because I'm a long-time fan of Marvel Comics and when I go to one of these movies I see every mistake made in the characters and the plot lines in the movies because I know these movies are geared more to non-fans that know nothing about the characters than the real fans that do so I know exactly what you're saying.

For those of us who remember The Real Elvis, John Carpenter's "Elvis" with Kurt Russell (1979) was The Best. Every Ten to Fifteen Years after that they released another Re-Invented Elvis Bio we had to suffer through. Most were based on stories by those who didn't have Elvis around anymore to pay their bills. Elvis Presley could of fired Colonel Parker any time he wanted. He just became The Scapegoat when in reality most of Presley's Friends and Family were equally to blame. I remember Mr. Hanks making Rude Remarks on Elvis' Musical "Girl Happy" years ago. We've all had our "Bossum Buddies" Moments...

@NANCY SPILLER thank you very much and the film is even worse than the trailer and how the elvis portrayed it badly, grossly superficially as if it weren't elvis but the evil twin. It was terrifying, first the hip-hop thing, which didn't even exist in the 50's, then the time jumps, like they were being flushed through like a washing machine. I've seen some bad movies about Elvis >>> Elvis and I >>> Elvis 2005 >> but this one is even worse than the others. Then they made film cuts that differed from the original live footage. Especially the sayings, or that Elvis got himself pills in the early 1950s to be fit for his performance, although he didn't do that until around 1958 when he became a soldier, he took sleeping pills to sleep through because he was afraid that he could be sleepwalking again. It's bad the way you label Elvis. And Elvis didn't become a soldier because otherwise he would have to go to prison for 2 years, but because he beat up a man at the gas station, but Elvis was acquitted because Elvis only defended himself. The only good thing about the film was that some black people had good voices. What they just forgot is that besides his singing, which Elvis did in the 50's, 60's and 70's, there were some good things about Elvis in how he helped other people. or was grateful for every fan in the 50s, 60s, 70s and patiently took the time to sign autographs. and not like the new Elvis in the 50s once ignored the fans and didn't give autographs because he was mad at the manager in the 50s and drove off angry.

I guess I'm the only one who didn't like it. The Cournals voice was so creepy I couldn't stand it. I found it hard to follow, to fast pace and unconnected fragments of Elvis s life. Yes the Elvis character is good looking, but I didnt sense any chemistry between him and "Priscilla ". I would give it a 3, but like I said I must be the only one. I need to add, I've always been an Elvis fan.

Well, Hotty Toddy!!!!! If Elvis had met me first, there wouldn't have been a Priscilla romance 💒💍 That's Right!!!!! 72- year- old Antique Girl here!!!!! I'm so HAPPY 😁🙏🌹 I saw ELVIS in concert!!!!!!! My big sister saw ELVIS in a little high- school concert when Elvis was first starting out, and the school 🏫 principal threw Elvis out after just 2 songs, calling him "vulgar trash,,". Unbelievable!!!!!! This was in Alabama, early 1955. Boy, people were uptight in the 1950s!!!!! God Bless Elvis for kicking down the doors of Uprightness!!!!! 👑 🎶 🎵 🎸

In 1979, less than two years after Elvis' death, Dick Clark produced a about Elvis,
starring Kurt Russell. Kurt, who at age 12, had actually appeared with Elvis in his film,
" It Happened at the World's Fair",1962, did such a superb job portraying "The King" that, I
believe, made this Dick Clark's greatest financial blunder in not showing it in theaters, first!

Elvis has been gone for over 40 years.
I still remember that afternoon when I came home from school and saw the news of his death on tv.
40 plus years and still million of people visit his grave site every year.
More people visit Elvis' grave than all the Hollywood celebrities, famous people and politicians put together.
Singers like Micheal Jackson (not the knock MJ) and the rest of them had nothing on Elvis. MJ is certainly talented but still second to the king.
There are at least 100,000 dollars in flowers left at Elvis' grave site every year.
Over 600,000 fans visit his grave each year.
They sell tickets to the grave site at $12 each in the early 2000.
Now it's $47 per admission (as of 2021)
I guess if you spend thousands on plane tickets, hotels, food etc another $47 dollars is not an issue. No fan is going to object to that.
They probably can increase that admission fee much more without complaints. (not that I want to see it)
Most of the other celebrity grave sites have free admission.
Still very few people visit them.
Elvis' resting site is the most ever visited by fans.
The admission brings in well over $20 million per year.
Add that to all his paraphernalias and music rights, collectables etc.
His daughter never have to work for the rest of her life.
Elvis generates a lot more money 44 years after he death then most artists alive today.
Elvis was genuine and real. He never forgot where he came from. He didn't let fame and fortune go to his head (like most celebrities)
A down to earth man that the ordinary person can relate to.
He treated people the way he would want to be treated.
That's why he is so loved by so many.
The reason almost no Singers today don't record his songs is because they can't do it better than Elvis.
When you record someone else's song, you will inevitably be compared to the original.
That's when you know how good he was.
Listen to some of his songs like (can't help falling in love) that song was done by many artists including Andrea Bocelli. Bocelli is considered one of the best artist today.
Go look it up on youtube and listen for yourself.
There is no comparison.
American idol has been on for well over a decade, they still don't have a contestants that comes even close to Elvis.
Imagine if you had someone with his looks, singing talent, and oozes charisma?
That's what an idol is about.
Elvis is the original and the biggest "IDOL" of all time.
That's not just coming from someone who has been an Elvis fan since the age of 10.
He is simply the best.
That's why people always go back to his music.
Elvis was a true talent, not like so many that calls themselves singers today.
I remember hearing Mariah Carey beating Elvis for the most records ever sold in the US
Elvis has sold more than 2.5 billion records worldwide. The single most EVER sold by one recording artist.
How many people will be to attending Mariah Carey's grave site years after her death.
Fans making unsolicited yearly pilgrimages.
I think not.
Most famous people and celebrities are forgotten (but for a mention in history) a few years after their passing.
ELVIS is the only one that lives on for decades after his death.
Let's be honest, the music he was provided with in some of those movies in the 60s were less than desirable material. Certainly not the kind of rock and roll that made him in the early years.
But he did the best he could with them. Absolutely no one else other than Elvis could have pulled it off and done them as well as he did.
Ironically I think some of his best recordings came out of the 60s, his voice was amazing in those years.
He could sing anything. That was Elvis.
They say (Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery). Elvis has been and will always will be the most ever imitated in this world.
There are professional Elvis impersonators, commonly known as Elvis tribute artists (ETAs) from literally every country on this planet.
There has never be that phenomenon ever.
It's only happened once, and it will almost certainly never happen again.
If you go to some 3rd world country where the locals don't even speak English (as I have), the people there probably never heard of famous politicians or celebrities but as soon as you say one name "Elvis" they know who you are talking about. To be known worldwide by your first name along is really saying something. He will live on through his timeless music long after the rest of us are gone.
I'm not a religious person but the one person I would like to meet in heaven (if there is one) would be Elvis.
I would like to shake his hand, tell him how much he has affected me and been a part of my life.
I'd never imagined I would say that about someone I've never even once meet before.
Elvis' music and legacy will always be loved in the hearts of people around the world.
Even though some of these people speaks no English.
That is totally AMAZING, unheard of.
He will always be the one and only.
There will never be another Elvis.
What Elvis had was something that can't be learned or perfected with endless hours of repetitive practice like playing tennis, it came with him when he was born.
Nature gave him a gift that in my opinion will never ever see again in our culture.
He truly is one of a kind.
He will remain in the history of humanity.
Like I said, looks, voice, charisma, talent, originality, uniqueness all in one package.
Like a seed that grows and blooms into something that all our human technology, institutions and science will never replicate.

Supposedly, Elvis became a Christian as a child and in his latter years, he grew very close to the Lord. And as the only way to Heaven, which is very real, is through the acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and His shed blood sacrifice on the cross at Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins, Elvis is definitely there and singing with the angels! .

Loved the Elvis movie. I was 11 again watching Ed Sullivan. Austin did a wonderful job. Didn’t much care for the Colonel. I know he used Elvis, but that accent! Good grief, was he a Nazi? And Elvis would never have been so cruel during a performance. Never. Thank you for bringing back my youth. Elvis did not corrupt us!!

@starfish When Elvis came out very few singers wrote their own songs. Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Harry Belofonte, and many others that were the top acts at that time did not write their own songs. Only after the Beatles (who wrote most of their songs) did that start to become common place. But that is not what I was really speaking of. I was talking about him being called a racist and that he stole from the black people. He wasn't a racist and many black people swear to that. Also he didn't (steal ) from them. When he was young he grew up in the same culture as them. His mother picked cotton with black people and on their days off they traded off watching each others children, so he used to live in their homes, eat the same meals and live their culture. His best friends were black boys and he went to their churches and sang their music with them. That is how he became who he was. Too, in order to use others songs you had to have the rights to do so from the publishing companies so nothing was stolen.

@Jennifer Brooks I was 23 also (saw your earlier comment) when Elvis died. Devastated me also because I had been a big fan since I was 8 yrs. old. I did get to see him though. I saw him in concert in Oct. of 76. He was not the svelte person he had been years earlier but his voice was unbelievable. He belted out the song "Hurt" which was fairly new and he didn't miss a note. Years later I was talking with a guy I worked with (who was 6'6" and made of muscle) and he told me that he was at that concert too. He said when Elvis came out on stage with the 2001 Space Odyssey music playing that he got chills and goose bumps from his head to his toes. I told him, hey the same thing happened to me ( although I never wanted to admit it before but if he could so could I, haha). Anyway, it was a great concert.
