Expected some compassion from these scientists. Studying animals by killing it/making it suffer, what a joke. Give the animal a quick death at least. Bunch of savages.
This is like how the Japanese claim to be doing research by killing whales. Except that whales look 'cute' and these look 'creepy', so most ppl don't care.

that one last scientist said "we barely scratched the surface" well thats not true, you scratched the hell out of one of the last sea floores untouched by man. this wasnt scientific this was to see where the next part of the ocean will be RAPED..... You guys should feel ashamed of the work your doing for the fisheries,,,,,, hope you all die slow painful deathes for opening this part of the oceans up to be piliged... no place on earth is safe from humans ............. depopulation now

Ummm, Mars? It looks nothing like Mars in terms of barrenness. Why Mars? There's no ocean, or liquid water, we know of on Mars, and it's not even the same color. The great sand dunes national park. Now that looks barren like the surface of Mars.

I understand that there are many people who are unhappy with the trawling that the scientists did as well as with the many specimens that have died during this. But one needs to understand that unlike fishermen who tear up miles upon miles of the sea floor the scientists only did it for a few minutes and did it more safely. I applaud the scientists who are all in this who are trying to understand the impacts of global warming and doing what they can to protect the future of our oceans.
What one often wonders about is what marine species have died out at the start of the 19th century due to over fishing before the marine biologists could get to them and study them. Knowing what fish species there are out there helps one to determine numbers and what environment they live in? A small sacrifice will need to be made...but even I agree that many of those animals I would have wanted to throw back after safely documenting them had there been a way to keep them alive. Just as we humans study animals, plants and each other, I am sure aliens are doing the same to us and our planet. lol
My deepest condolences to the marine microbiologist who lost her husband. I to would have wanted to stay with my team, otherwise I would have been alone and unable to heal. I hope he is resting peacefully.
Crypto Spectr
Crypto Spectr - 9 hari yang lalu
Not convinced by the pseudo scientific spin put on this 'mission', net trawling is well known to be extremely destructive to marine environments/ecosystems, it's clearly a fishing trip with some folks who have some vaguely scientific intentions, but not with preservation in mind at all. Probably only there to justify the fishing haul somehow, strikes me as similar to the Japanese hunting whales and calling it scientific research. I'm pretty disappointed in this. Also who wrote the script?? Sounded like it was written by a high-schooler in places, but to be honest most American TV documentaries sound like that to me, National Geographic docs are another perfect example, unnecessarily dramatic which just cheapens everything.
Ray Cicin
Ray Cicin - 9 hari yang lalu
Fascinating but, a little disconcerting the everything has to be hauled up and die in order to be studied.
ChlamydiaChowder - 7 hari yang lalu
sad, yeah, but if we cant survive going down there then we have to bring them up, and even just bringing up deepsea life kills them before they leave the water
PatriotPigeon - 7 hari yang lalu
If it were possible to study these life forms without doing this, then we would. We don't have to kill lions and tigers, etc. because we are able to live in their environment safely. We just need more/better waterproofing of technology in order to study these creatures without killing them. Invent a motherboard that is waterproof, and a material that is immune to pressure and as clear as glass and you will have removed most of the barriers to doing so.
PatriotPigeon - 7 hari yang lalu
It's only disconcerting to those that live in "Bambi-land" and think that everyone and everything is immortal... The significance and protection that these death afford to their entire species is FAR more valuable than whatever miniscule amount of nutrients they would've provided to whatever animal ate them the next day, or the day after that, or the one after that, etc. It sounds like you only understand the nice side of science, but to get it as a whole, you have to accept death as an inevitability.

Yeah, and they probably let that important fish die. The big one at the beginning of the video. Hope not.
Anyways, science is quite important and I believe these guys weren't hurting the ecosystem of Antarctica.
They are merely being scientific. That being said, I hope that they have learnt a lot from their expedition.
The documentary was ruined for me when they injected the death of the husband.
Sorry for her loss but I was actually enjoying the documentary then death comes into play.
It ruined it for me.
Assumed it was science then it became drama.
